What can you expect from ESC?
CONTRIBUTION
Our corps of volunteers is composed of compassionate,
dedicated and committed people who want to make a difference in our
communities. By capitalizing on their time, talent and expertise, ESC ensures that our consultants put their skills
to work with a myriad of nonprofits in Massachusetts
and Rhode Island.
Founded 25 years ago to give retired senior-level executives a chance to apply
their skills and talents towards improving the effectiveness of organizations
in the nonprofit sector, ESC
continues to attract dedicated volunteers—employed and retired. Our consultants
get tremendous satisfaction from seeing an organization whose goals they
support become more effective in accomplishing its mission.
CONNECTION
ESC consultants expect and make a connection—not only with the
nonprofits they serve, but also with ESC
itself. Consultants and ESC work together to make ESC
a stronger, more viable nonprofit organization, able to increase the number of
clients served while continually improving upon the delivery of our
services.
With a
corps of 120 volunteers, ESC
provides its consultants with an opportunity to engage in robust intellectual
exchange in collaboration with people from different backgrounds who have the
same commitment to the nonprofit community.
GROWTH
Continued personal development is valued and encouraged at ESC. We offer a variety of trainings that provide
ongoing educational opportunities for all ESC
consultants. Growth doesn’t just happen through trainings: it also happens
through projects. ESC makes sure
that consultants get exposed to areas of consulting that are of interest, even
when they are outside their immediate expertise. ESC
is thus able to offer its consultants the opportunity to
What can ESC expect from you?
COMMITMENT
In order for ESC
to provide the high-quality, low-cost service that it is known for, we require
specific levels of commitment. Each new consultant should be able to commit a
minimum of two years to ESC.
Within the first two years, the consultant will be asked to work on at least
one project per year to its completion.
Projects range in length from a couple of weeks to a year. Some
consultants prefer to take on only one project at a time and do one or two
projects a year. Others take on several projects a year and do several at
once.
In addition to consulting, new volunteer consultants are
required to attend ESC’s three
Core Courses (Orientation, Consulting Skills, and Governance) within the first
year of their service. These courses are offered at least twice a year.
It is important to understand that when you accept an ESC consulting project, it should become a priority
for you—our clients are paying fees and expect effective, high-quality
consulting services.
EXPERIENCE
Our consultants are experienced, dedicated and compassionate
professionals from a variety of industry and cultural backgrounds. Because the
quality of ESC services rests on
the quality of its consultants, we value our consultants’ knowledge and skills
very highly.
PARTNERSHIP
Becoming a volunteer consultant with ESC
means that you are entering into a partnership.
Your feedback is welcomed and solicited, your participation in ESC events is strongly encouraged, and your
willingness to continue to help ESC
grow and meet its mission is a necessity.
Together, ESC and its
consultants can create more dynamic, caring and deeply connected communities.
